About | The Kalleske family have been farming and growing grapes since 1853 near the village of Greenock. In 2004, after six generations of growing grapes, winemaker and seventh generation family member, Troy Kalleske, together with his brother Tony, established the Kalleske winery and made the first ‘Kalleske’ wine. Troy and Tony’s parents, John and Lorraine, and brother, Kym, manage the vineyard. John has over forty years experience tending the vineyard. Vines vary in age with the oldest remaining vineyard dating back to 1875 and an overall average vine age of about 50 years. The vineyard is low yielding with grapes grown organically and biodynamically; the winery is also certified biodynamic and organic. All Kalleske wines are estate grown and vinified with minimalist winemaking techniques used to fully capture the essence of the vineyard allowing genuine handmade estate wines to be produced. |

Wine | Elenore is from a single vineyard of Semillon on the Kalleske property that was planted in 1980. The aroma is very uplifting with notes of rockmelon, pawpaw, pear and apple along with hints of nutty oak. The palate is medium bodied and richly flavoured. The ripe fruits continue to dominate providing a very enticing wine. There is evident oak from barrel maturation adding another layer of flavour. There is further complexity with honey, butter and creamy notes from the natural malolactic fermentation and time on lees. The wine is balanced with bright acidity adding backbone and length. |
