2018 Ragazzi Pinot Grigio
|Region||Adelaide Hills + Langhorne Creek, SA|
Casa Freschi was one of the first Italian wine style specialists in Australia for sommeliers to cut their teeth on back in the late 90’s. Already a very experienced winemaker, it was David Freschi’s vintage in Puglia in 1994 that provided the final inspiration for Casa Freschi. Drawing initially from a vineyard in Langhorne Creek planted in 1972 by his father, David produced the Profondo and La Signora red wines from Cabernet, Shiraz and Malbec; Nebbiolo has since been added. In 2003 he purchased an old high altitude orchard and market garden on Mt Lofty in the Adelaide Hills and established high density plantings of Chardonnay, Pinot Grigio, Riesling and Gewürztraminer for a premium white wine range. Both vineyards are now farmed with organic practices. The high annual rainfall of 42 inches (1050mm) allows the vineyard to be dry grown. The vines are grown in harmony with nature without the use of synthetic fertilizers, herbicides, fungicides and pesticides. They are hand pruned and select hand harvested.
All wines are made with minimal interference to allow the vineyards and regions to express themselves clearly. The whites are some of the most textural, aromatic and pure wines of the Adelaide Hills and the reds show the warmth and generosity of Langhorne with more than a nod to Southern Italy.
|Wine||This is a multi-layered Pinot Grigio with complex and concentrated flavour led by pear, apple and lime. The pure, vibrant fruit flavours are supported by light, fine phenolics, mouth-watering acidity, minerality and a slightly nutty finish.|
|Tasting Note||Citrus - Pear - Tangy|
