2019 Gathering Field Pinot Noir
|Producer||Thousand Candles. Yarra Valley, Vic|
Thousand Candles stretches from the valley floor of the banks of the Yarra to the rolling hills hundreds of metres above sea level. 2017 Young Gun of Wine finalist and Yeasty Boys drummer – Stuart Proud tends the vineyard and makes the wines of this sprawling 1,100-acre Yarra Valley farm – a meeting place of mountains, rolling hills, bush, pasture, river-flats, creeks, and river.
A sustainable farmer with background as a viticulturist at De Bortoli in Yarra Valley – Stuart’s focus is on soils that are healthy, balanced and alive – using biological farming methods – minimal intervention in the winery provides depth, balance, complexity, and speak truthfully of where they came from. The Gathering Field Range is hand-picked from select parcels of fruit from their best blocks.
|Wine||Handpicked, 15% whole bunch fermentation to add complexity, made with minimal intervention and aged in older French oak. A savoury style Pinot with delicious aromas of violets and florals plus dried herbs. On the palate ripe red cherries, pomegranate, rhubarb and earthiness, fresh acidity and chalky tannins.|
|Tasting Note||Red cherry - Earthy - Lively|
