2020 Lethbridge Ooh La La Chardonnay

Situated in the Moorabool Valley in the Geelong region – Lethbridge Wines’ Ray Nadeson came from teaching and researching neuroscience at Monash University before pursuing his shared passion for wine with his partner Maree Collis and friend Adrian Thomas. While establishing Lethbridge, Ray continued his publishing pain research – while Maree continued her medicinal chemistry research – and both studying winemaking at CSU (we can see where the pain came in!) – finally jumping in full time in 2003. Managed following Rudolf Steiner’s biodynamic principles and undergoing organic certification – the site was selected, not surprisingly, based on the science (soil type, heat summation, aspect, rainfall, and climate). But the discovery of an ancient wooden fermentation vat from the 1870s in an old shed – reincarnated as a beautiful timber tasting bench in the cellar door – also embodied their passion for both traditional wisdom and modern science.
Ray Nadeson and Maree Collis
|Wine||The fruit was hand-picked from vines yielding 2.0 tonne/acre and whole bunch pressed. The juice then underwent wild yeast fermentation in new French puncheons. The wine was matured on lees in barrel (10% new French oak, 90%older French oak) for 9 months including natural malolactic fermentation. A beautifully clean, pure nose of ripe melon, lemon zest, white peach and toast with traces of baked apple and shortbread. Lovely freshness in the mouth and excellent cleansing acidity with notes of pear, apple and lime with a beautiful soft, creamy finish.|
